Re: [haflingerfriends] Why Halflingers?

Hi, Cari,

I read your previous post but didn't feel I'm knowledgable enough about the breed to answer. Are you anywhere near Top of the Line Farms in Redding CA? Holly Singleton has some therapy horses for sale who would probably be exceptionally gentle even for this breed.

I AM qualitifed, however, to tell you why I love this little horse. :) I love their size and bone structure coupled with their reputation for having a gentle disposition. I consider myself a novice/hobbyist horse owner. My daughter is a beginning rider. I want her to have a horse I feel she's relatively safe around. So, far, I think I've made a good choice. (Only had Babe two weeks.)

I'm very new to the breed. I think I have one of each type -- sport and draft. One* is higher strung than the other but both are such gentle, concientious souls.

*He may outgrow this. He's only almost three.

So, For What It's Worth,

Marilyn in Sacramento

Subject: [haflingerfriends] Why Halflingers?

I posted this once.. but I don't think I got a response. (I think the
breeding discussion was brought up.) I am looking for a "pony" to
ride. I would like either a Halflinger or Fjord. I am five foot
nothing and have MS. I'm not wheelchair bound at all, I can still walk
on my own. I just need something that is gentle and quiet on the
trails. I really am not looking for a so called "dead head", just one
that is trustworthy. What are the temperaments like with Halflingers?
Are they pushy? Are they slow, not fast enough to keep up with the QH?
Can someone tell my why they chose the Halfy compared to other "ponies"?
Thanks guys
~Cari
