> Hi My hafinger friends. I am sad to announce that the first foal for 2010 at Rivervalley lost life within minutes of birth. Due to my own neglect, the mares are up in high country still, this mare was early in foaling, went off by the river bed to foal and the d*^m coyotes killed it within minutes of birth. What a hard hit. I think I will get the fences fixed NOW and bring the girls home asap. None are bagged up other than her, who barely has a bag even now. But I want them home and I want the coyotes dead! And the wolves! And whatever else wants to eat my foals! I'm frustrated, angry and sad, though this was not a planned breeding, I new the mare was bred and it is upsetting none the less. I do not mean to bore you with tragidy, just feeling stupid and mad at myself for not getting her home earlier. Anyway, I loaded the foal in the truck and raced it out of over a mile of pasture while mom followed and whinnied and that is a real tear jerker I'll tell ya. I couldn't leave it to be eaten by the nasty as.wh.pes, and have her not go to feed at all, so this way maybe she will settle down in a few days before I move them home. Not sure what to do with baby. Just want to take a 30-30 and shoot the sorry ..... to peices. He even had the nerve to stand just off aways and watch me load it! Urrrr. Well, hopefully this will be the end of our losses for this year and things will brighten up from here on out.
> I don't mean to sound harsh but in our country tough is as tough gets unfortunately. I do regret not getting them home, but even a few years ago we had a cat trying to kill our foals right here in our foaling pasture close to the house. This life may not be for everyone I guess and sometimes I have to dig to find a way to make this work for me too. But, we just keep going I guess. Though we will never know why, we will know it wasn't ment to be. It sucks and hurts but I don't know how else to look at it without bawling. Yes Denny, it was sired by Alto to be this early. Sorry.
