Just getting time to read e-mails and this sentence rings true as to what
I saw today ... I went to the first Horse sale in my area for the year, I
went looking for puppies as we lost our dear old dog Jet the blue heeler and
Rick wants another one or two
There is a gal that usually sells blue heeler pups at the horse sale so off
I went to check out the sale yard ... it was good to see that the horses
were in good shape and many had been well cared for this winter ...
Speaking of crosses: there was a welsh/haflinger cross gelding a two year
old that was presented in the sale. He was blondish/reddish color. the owner
was from the Sandpoint Idaho area.
This cute gelding had the body and mane and tail of a haflinger but a more
refined head and a really nice neck. He was not started under saddle being
so young but sad to say since he was a cross, he got almost no bids at all
and then when a few started bidding he only brought pocket change ... it was
terrible.
I want those of you that want to breed your haflingers to other breeds to p
lease think about this little gelding.
He was cute as a button but NO ONE WANTED HIM ... he was a cross with no
training. I had to leave, just so I would make sure not to try to buy him
...
yes, the kill buyers were there, and the last thing the man leading him
said as I was leaving that he would not take him home he was there to sell no
matter what. So again those of you that think you can improve on the breed by
crossing it out to something just because you want too well think about it
again ... Sad to say I bet the owner never even cared .... Prices on
registered horses were pretty good. many went for over $1500.00 to $1850.00
But the horses that were not registered went for next to NOTHING .... A
cross bred Hanoverian mare that was lovely sold for only $75.00 so again folks
please think before you breed ... it isn't worth it to just "see " what you
can get ... be sure you have a market for the horses you want to raise. Okay
I know that none of you want to hear this but again I ask for you to really
be sure you can support that horse and it's foal for the next 25 years if
you plan on breeding it. Peggy in eastern Wash.
