[haflingerfriends] Re: First 2010 Foal at Rivervalley is tragic...

There was no placenta anywhere to be found, I think the coyote ate that at the same time as the foal was being born. The mare is on antibiotics just in case. But she appears to be clean thus far, so we will leave her be a few days and just keep a watchful eye. If she gets a temp or has vaginal secrection other than normal in color and odor, then she will come home for further treatment and flushings. But I would say she is fine and did clean. Usually temps arise within 16 hours if they retain placenta, and hers is normal, as is her other vitals. Thanks for asking. Don't worry I had a drink or two last night! :)
