I have used in the past a supplement called HS35. It recommends not using
the trace mineral blocks because it can throw off the balance of the
minerals in the supplement. Of course they still need salt, so it
recommends only using the white salt blocks. My horses did fine on the
plain salt blocks. I'm sure others will disagree but to answer your
questions - yes, mine would use an ordinary (white) salt block. I no longer
use the HS35 so I've went back to the trace minerals. I have noticed though
that they do not go through the trace mineral blocks as often as they did
the white when we were using them.
