Re: [haflingerfriends] Day 1 & 2 clicking Camryn

Can you give an example of how you'd use the clicker to get a horse to do
something he's otherwise leery of? If you're clicking for the correct
behavior, you have to get the behavior before you can click, so how do you
get the behavior in the first place if he's too worried to do it?

I would ask for something the horse exels at and/or enjoys doing that we'd first have perfected say in the paddock area.  Examples, Mo flexed to his right quite easily, so I might ask for that.  Another was he hated going to the back of our pasture where woods began.  I first taught him to touch cones, then set the cones up getting closer and closer to his worrisome area.  Each time he'd get further back and it became a  happy place where he got clicks and treats.  Mo used to walk off when mounting, I'd ask him to flex immediatly after and before long it came automatically. Or prior to riding out in a strange place, we'd play some clicker games by the trailer getting him tuned in before he thought of tuning out.
