[haflingerfriends] Re: Salt

My boy loved the Himalayan Salt Lick the best, but when I started feeding more natural and started using Whole Oats I had to do a lot of research to make sure I was using the correct supplements. Dr. Dan (Natural Vet) has a wonderful product that is trace minerals and it is best used free choice (and used with no other salt blocks) because they will eat more when they need it and less when they don't. Horses will naturally balance their systems when given the trace minerals free choice. However, I have found that with my haflinger man - he tends to eat it all no matter when so I have gone to the alternative of top dressing with the loose trace mineral from Dr. Dan. Expensive - but well worth it - especially if you are feeding whole oats.
