Hi Susan, Now that is a good horse to stand and I doubt she was laughing. Many years ago as I tried to mount Mr. Bob, the saddle slipped down as my foot and stirrup slid right under his belly. He did not move his feet one inch, but as his curiosity got the better of him, he turned his head around to see what new and strange thing I was doing. That incident reminded me to always check the girth before trying to mount. Love the calm Haflinger personality!
Today we had our first ride since Oct 30. I knew he would be a bit rusty, but he's been so in-my-pocket lately I thought he'd be an easy catch today. Didn't happen! He started toward me, spied the halter with lead rope and headed for high ground. :o(
I grabbed my trusty lunge whip and began to snap it as he put on one big show galloping all over the paddock, even enticing Miss Marcy to gallop with him. After working up a good sweat with all that exercise, he eventually careened into the round pen where he quietly stood, waiting until I walked up and put the halter on him. :o)
With all the excitement over, he was an unusually good boy during mounting and riding. We didn't do much since we both are so out of shape, but it was wonderful to once again be in the saddle on a sunny day with temps around 55 degrees. :o) Spring WILL come again!!
