[haflingerfriends] Pro/Pre biotics..Fastrack

Years ago a university tested Fastrack against Forco and Forco was the clear "winner". U C Davis stocke it is its pharmacy for many years. Forco however is a prebiotic in that it does not contain live organisms.  I was told by a vet years ago that the only way to have live "bugs" in supplements is refrigeration and encapsulization. Freeze dried organisms are not alive per se.

Fastrack and Forco both contain enzymes tho and those are beneficial.  I have had outstanding luck over the years with Forco.  I have also heard good things about a product called Ration Plus. A lot of feeds claim to contain pro and prebiotics but usually htey do not contain enough to make a huge difference unless you are feeding large quantities of the feed.  I fed a great Triple Crown Product called Safe Starch Forage and it did contain a yeast culture which helps digestion. I agree that Triple Corwn is an outstading company regardng quality control.

Re: Nutrient Buffer.  I used it on my horse with ulcers and was very happy.  IT contains no drugs.  You can call Linsey McLean at Vita ROyal and get the ingredients tho I think they are mainly calcium, magnesium and canola oil as a suspension.  The nice thing about NB is that it does not cause acid rebound and is great to use when a horse is under a lot of stress since it protects the gut. It is WAY cheaper than the ulcer meds from the vet and has no side effects.
