Re: [haflingerfriends] Re: World Haflinger Federation breed standard minimum height raised

You know, you make a very, very, good point there. If you want a QH sized horse most people would just buy a QH. If you are wanting a pony sized equine you are going to look at pony breeds. Even the hunter jumper world considers a "pony" 14.2 or less. So you would think a breed that is thought of as a pony breed would at least stick to no more than that. I dunno, call me crazy.

I was attracted to these Haflingers because they were smaller ( and mine are on the big side) to learn to drive team with. It may be silly but the smaller size gives me a lot more courage to try with than two of my 17 hand Percherons do.

Why did I become interested in Haflingers, when I already had 3 very nice rideable warmbloods? Height.(My mare is 14.1)
Would I prefer taller haflingers? No.
What do people want in a family horse?
Short, sound, easy keeper, healthy, good temperament.

Can the shorter Haflingers compete in most sports? Yes.
This is a large list, and an opinion poll might be a valuable tool to send to the WHA. Also individual letters.

Why do they need to be taller? The world is full of taller horses, what so many want is a small but sturdy horse.
How many? A moot question. Who are they? Breeders, mamas, grandmas, sellers?

You are right to be enraged, Emily, as the thought of so many nice horses turned into sausage is horrible.

Geri in cool (25F) morning, but sunny.
