Subject: [haflingerfriends] Re: World Haflinger Federation breed standard minimum height raised
Dear Emily, Kiola, Kate and all,
I follow your heated discussions and agree with many of your opinions. My haffies are quite drafty, very affectionate and not too high - but not too low either.
They are approximately 144 cm - 147 cm. What my coming 3-year-old will be I don't know yet. They are very comfortable to ride and that was what this old lady wanted. (64 years, does not need to be converted, see below)
BUT I have something that you NEED - I have a free computer program, by
http://www.joshmadison.com/software called CONVERT, version 4.10, which can do all the calculations you are trying to do discussing different heights and weight etc.. and many many more!
As a rule in Sweden at Haflinger Trail riding businesses (turridningsfirmor) , they do not accept riders with a weight exceeding 90 kilos, which is 198.4158 pounds (lb) according to this program. Now my weight is around (and recently below) 70 kilos, which is 154.3234 pounds (lb). So I don't need to be ashamed toward my haffies. By the way I had a lady here to ride my gelding a couple of times, she weighed 85 kilos and I could see that he had a problem balancing her on his back... or maybe she had the balancing problem (that was an irony). Anyway she did not come back.
In Europe we don't think in hands, inches and pounds - AT ALL. Except the UK of course.
So now when you talk about acres, we can all go into Area in Convert and see how big your farms are, because we think in hektar/hectare and tunnland, which is half a hectare, and tunnland is not found in the program.
This way I have learned that my little farm, which is of approx. 7 hectares, is approx. 18 acres.
All the best to all
Elisabeth in the south of Sweden
