Re: [haflingerfriends] I did it!!!

Well, I did get to ride her a little. She's said to drive and comes with a cart, but I didn't get to drive her. She's been standing around for a long time so she was a little obstinate at first, but after a few minutes she was responding well. Sure, there will be training to do, but that's fun! I got a good feeling from the seller as well. I believe she was being honest with me (we'll see, lol!). I didn't hae a vet exam done, but I did get to talk to her vet on speakerphone as we were looking EDE over. I had a concern about a runny eye. Hopefully it was a well-calculated risk. I buy horses with my gut. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing. I guess it doesn't matter. If I go to look at a horse and we don't "click", I walk away. I clicked right away with Moxie and it's been a GREAT decision. I over-rode my gut instinct with the Standardbred I just sent back because she was a rescue and I was trying to help the lady out. She was sane and sound and kid-safe and big enough for my husband...and FREE....but I just didn't click with her. In weighing the pro's and con's, she was perfect, but there was no instant love. She was fine, not mean, not bad, but not a Haflinger. I took her anyway and ended up sending her back because she was SO dominant with Moxie that I felt it was unsafe for humans in the area. Shoulda listened to my heart! Oh well, all that to say, I "clicked" with EDE and I can't wait to get her home!

I'm glad Babe is being a Haflinger for you and that you're happy with him!!!

We've only had Babe a week but thus far his temperament is spot-on haflinger -- calm, gentle, and smart. (We've had one lesson on "don't chew the lead rope" and he's been responsive.)

He's had his hooves trimmed and while he's touchy about his hind legs he wasn't mean about having a perfect stranger (the farrier) handle them. He just pulled or tucked them away out of reach. [chuckle]

Were you able to try out EDE before buying her? I bought Babe through a friend of a friend, having seen only the photos she took of him. It was helpful with the sale to have that element of trust between friends, but it was still nerve wracking. (racking?) In my exchanges with the seller I felt she was very honest and not hiding anything from me which helped ease the sale. She was frank about his past colic, etc.

I had a vet exam done up in Oregon and that helped as well. I was confident the vet wouldn't risk his professional reputation on the sale of one horse. In fact, I think he was a bit hard on the seller which I actually appreciate now that I have Babe.

Thanks and Congratulations, Marilyn! Life can be so good sometimes, can't it? I am so excited to get her here and see what she's really like and what she really knows. I hope Bubuh....er. ...Babe is everything your daughter needs and that they have a long and wonderful partnership!
