Subject: [haflingerfriends] Finally rode Camryn today :)

Finally got to saddle up and ride Camryn today, had puttered about bareback a few times. Yee Ha! Needed a larger cinch for her and finally picked that up yesterday. It's in the high 20's but sunny so felt warm. I took in consideration that she's rusty having not been ridden much in 3 years so took my time. Plus I had to do a lot of cinch adjustments, and my saddle rigs up very differantly. Got her saddled then walked about letting her get used to it before putting her bridle on. She'd been ridden in a Tom Thumb while I use a full cheek snaffle. So after bitting I walked her about some more. Finally I go to mount and she walks off, with the snow I slid and bam on my bottom. She looked down like "What happened Mom" but just stood, probably laughing silently. Took three more times not because she walked off again but, had to keep tightening the cinch as saddle kept sliding. Then TADA I was up!!! Like I said she's rusty so
we just worked on her moving off to pressure (with clicker) and worked on Whoa as well. She did a slight spook in place at our shadow but, realized quickly it was a "DUH, that's us" moment. It was soooooo great finallly being up on my girlie girl. Hoping if we get enough opportunity to just play we'll be good to go come spring.
She so very mouthy, not to me directly but anything that can go in her mouth will be there. She untied my safety knot, while I went in the barn to grab something before saddling, came out to discover Ms. Camyrn Comedian walking towards me not with the lead dragging but holding it in her mouth. Reaches back pulling the blanket off, chomps her reins, even took my hat while I groomed off my head. Halter was pulled from the fence to sample....Almost forgot I couldn't find my carrot stick the other day, she'd managed to grab it from outside the fence where it was propped and had been playing with it in her paddock. She's a trip for sure, can't be grouchy with a comedian in the barn LOL
And she got lots of hugs after our wee ride!!!
