Re: [haflingerfriends] Day 1 & 2 clicking Camryn

Hey Susan!  I clicker train my horses and honestly, it is SO MUCH FUN!  There is no end to the things you can do - help them with their confidence, get them to do things they are otherwise really leery of - they really learn to trust you - good luck!  It's a blast!

I mentioned other day that I'd planned to introduce Camryn to click training.  Someone suggested privatley that I might keep the list updated on progress.
Camryn is one smart cookie, a handful of clicking w/treat immediatly after had her realizing the sound meant yummies.  I'd had hubby attach a tennis ball to the end of a dowel.  Camryn being of a very curious nature of course had to touch that ball.  As soon as she did, click/treat,  we played that for a bit then called it quits for the day.
Today, day 2, I brought out the touch stick and soon had her coming to touch all over the paddock.  I'd just filled her feed container so brought the bag out and tossed it on the ground.  The smell along with her being Ms. Curious Camryn had her walking over to touch.  Once she realized touching with her nose got her a c/t, I held off and waited till she accidently touched the bag with a foot.  Took some time but, before quitting she was happily pawing the bag.
Not sure where we'll go with this right now.  Camryn is rusty in saddle, basically no ground work skills other leading and backing.  So we'll play some  clicking games and add ground work to the mix over winter.  Then move up to clicking in the saddle come spring.
