Just finished a "webinar" from the American Driving Society on harness and bits. One of the things mentioned was that the crown piece should not touch the ear but be at the bottom and behind the ear, like the almost the placement of the halter. So I went to hitch Meg and Larissa and low and behold the bridle was rubbing the bottom of the ear about a 1/4 inch up on the ear. Now these bridals were made for their head sizes...one cob and one horse and should have fit. So I need to contact the harness maker and have some made that will fit their brows. I called my trainer and he said 2 things..1) he sees this problem at many shows even with the top drivers and 2) Haffies are broad in their brows and so the standard browband might not fit exactally. There is no adjustment on my browbands so I will have to measure and order more. So please check all bridals..riding and driving and make sure they clear the back of the ear...i imagine this must be painful after
awhile for the poor horses.
Also you do not need to be a member of ADS to watch the webinars. Go to the ADS website and sign up. They will give you a number and then on the time of the webinar you just hit that number and hear the lecture with pictures and they even have printouts that you can do before hand and take notes or after. some of them are on ADS rules but the harness and bits one is great for everyone.
