RE: [haflingerfriends] broken elbow - a valuable lesson

Ouch, sorry to hear about the broken elbow!

Yes, more ground work to create a bond. Not sure about your experience, but
there are some good DVDs out. One of my riders brought over a DVD by Pony
Boy on ground work that I thought was excellent. Both he and Dennis Reis
talk about the horse wanting to stay with you - because you are the herd
leader. On his No Dust Tour last year, Dennis challenged the audience to be
able to do a Showmanship exercise with your horse with no lead line. Yikes!
But one of my riders decided that she could and has worked with her horse
about twice a week. The horse will now stay with her at a walk no matter how
she changes directions. She is working at doing this at the trot. Of course,
walking a trail, that horse would be on lead line!

Get better soon
