[haflingerfriends] Why Haffies make a good choice

Cari -
I also wanted to weigh in on a vote for Haflingers.

I got my Sadie about three years ago, not really knowing anything about the breed except I had a terrible riding accident on a QH and was laid up for a summer.  I HAD TO begin riding again and began looking for a horse with a better mind.  My riding coach thought a Haffie would be a good choice for me.

Now I am sure that I will always own a haflinger.

While it took me a few tries before finding the right match for me, here's what I love about Haffies:
1.  Great size.  A little closer to the ground makes me feel more secure.  I am 5' so it works for me.
2. Great movement.  Feels like riding a horse with big movement.  Smooth gaits, sitable trot, rocking canter.
3. Great versatility.  Used for all types of riding and driving and sports....and excels in all of them.
4. Great personality.  These horses bond with their people.  And they do the funniest antics. Historically used as peasant horses, they were beloved by their families.  Easy to see why.  Good work ethic, too.

They can be pushy and must have consistent reminders.  They can have weight problems so you have to watch the feed.  And any horse can act goofy this time of year because of the weather.

BUT I cannot recommend haflingers enough.  When you get a good match, it's a match made in heaven.  You will truly cherish that little horse.

Anne
