My reasoning for the haflinger started with me getting my mare Rosie. I grew up with paints/qh and arabs and had no clue what a haflinger was like. I figured I'd break her and sell her, but the more I worked with her the more I fell in love. She was SO EASY and willing to plase over any other breed i've worked with. so loving and forgiving also. I don't know much about the fjords as I haven't worked with them personally, but I have heard they are quite similar to the haflinger just look different. similar build, temperment and size.
as for ponies, Technically the haflinger is a horse both in conformation and temperment. they do not possess the 'pony attitude'. They will test you and some can be pushy, but if you let them know your space right away they respect it well. They are fast learners.
If your looking for a haflinger to fit your needs I would highly reccommend Holly SIngleton's haflingers of Top of the Line Farm. She has a TON of great therapy horses and or horses that will fit your needs. her website is www.topolinefarm.com she is an awesome lady and is really good at finding 'the right' horse for people.
Good luck in your adventure finding the perfect horse for you.
