[haflingerfriends] Re: What the haffy is supposed to be...

Hi Jennifer,

It would be very helpful to state where you got the information. Perhaps you can give a weblink? That helps people in understanding who wrote the information and if it is legitimate or not.

Honestly, you can find differing opinions on anything in life. Whether or not a person chooses to agree or disagree with an opinion is their choice. Hopefully people will base their opinion on factual information that they have researched and found to be true... but not everyone does.

As someone has posted here before though, we are limited here in America as to what we have learned as fact about the breed. There is a lot more Haflinger breed information out there that we are not privy to simply because many of us do not know how to translate foreign language - Ok, I know I can't... maybe some of you can.

I am sorry you had negative feedback to the video. I think it is unfair of people to base an opinion off of a video... Haflingers are pretty wonderful in person, and they certainly do well when seen stalled near other breeds. I remember a year when I was involved in a horse expo and we had our Haflingers stalled right across from the Lippizans. Wow! What a contrast that was. The Haflingers were either eating or snoozing or looking for scratches from passers by... the Lippizans were fired up and loud and very nervous. There were not enjoying the expo. The Haflingers thought it was great... food, attention and admiration. :^)

The Haflinger was originally developed to work in the mountainous regions of its native land, where it was used as a mountain pack horse and for forestry and agricultural work. In the late 1900s, Haflingers were used by the Indian Army in an attempt to breed pack animals for mountainous terrain, but the program was unsuccessful due to the Haflinger's inability to withstand the desert heat. Today the breed is used in many activities that include draft and pack work, light harness and combined driving.
