[haflingerfriends] Re: A MileStone Day (First Ride on Charlie!!)(NOW First Lesson!)

My DH took about a dozen short videos with his camera phone during the lesson last evening and I've been watching them today when I have time. He noticed something that I didn't notice until he pointed it out to me. Charlie looked very at ease when I was riding him and actually looked like he was being careful with me. He moved into the trot very carefully and smoothly. At the end of the lesson the trainer had me dismount then remount, and wowee what a difference there was from the first mount of the evening. The first time I looked pretty nervous and Charlie lifted his head and tensed up, but the second time after I had ridden for almost an hour, I looked pretty darn smooth and didn't flop into the saddle. You could really see the difference in how Charlie reacted, staying relaxed and unconcerned. I'm looking foward to more lessons so Charlie and I can be a confident team. The ladies at the barn are planning for us to go to horse camp next summer and do group rides on the surrounding property and I plan to be right there with them!
I am really enjoying this thread of conversation. Reading everyone's "adventures" with their horses, and overcoming fears is really inspiring.
