[haflingerfriends] Re: I'm am quickly becoming addicted!

LOL, another addict, and I see you've already found out that while it may be fun to have one, life is so much better if you have MORE than one.

I really think that they should come with a Surgeons Generals health warning about addiction.

I learned that over graining can drastically increase the flight response and land me in the dirt and I don't come off easily - though bareback is a whole different world! I learned that they are so playful and love to be cuddled and praised! I learned that my wonderful pony has a phenominal pedigree - too bad he isn't still a Stallion! I learned how incredibly smart the breed is and especially my boy - it only took once of letting him back into an electric fence for him to learn that when I ask him to go forward that backing is not an option! I learned that I'm already wishing I could afford to buy and keep two!!!! But then why would I want to stop at just two :) And I learned that when you are used to riding TB's off the track and love that breed that what others consider to be high strung and spookie doesn't match my idea of that - because my Haffie certainly isn't!

I went out and we just played - yes - no agenda - just played. I free lunged and he jumped over barrels - he forgets he is only 14 hands and would jump the moon if he could get there! Every time I praised him he would turn and jump them again! Then we did some lead practice and every time I stopped he would stop - throat latch right by my shoulder - just like a gentleman - and he was not attached to anything - it was free lead practice!. Though the backing he doesn't quite get on cue yet - but boy can he back when he wants to :)

Sure wish I could have had her too!!!
