Well written out, and I agree with you that it is the duty of the representative and chairperson to give this information to AHR members. I brought that up I think either in 08 or 07 at the membership meeting that the AHR committees had a lack of board meeting minutes and how could month after month we go by with committees having 'no reports?' I was told that the directors and the committee members are volunteers and so they can only do 'so much'. :( However, after my statement, many of the committees did start adding more information and minutes into the board reports, so that was a bit of a stepping stone I suppose.
And everyone's opinion counts, even if we don't agree. When we don't give opinions, things don't get changed, or get done, and everyone assumes that everything is fine as is. We don't have to agree, I certainly like to swim against the current for something I believe in, and take the thrashing that comes later, and I understand those who don't. But to make change, or to see what is or is not going on, sometimes we have to ask questions, we have to demand answers, and changes, and that won't work if we don't have a way to discuss things. And then, if people aren't willing to listen, or further, there aren't those who are willing to work to change it, nothing happens. There is a lack on all sides I believe, those who are afraid to voice their opinion, those who voice their opinion to much, those who work hard all the time that people never know, those who sit in a position for years and do little and get a ton of credit, and those who just sit and complain no matter what is done. We are all guilty of any of these at some point in our lives, good or bad.

> You bring up some good points about the phone numbers being in the AHR magazine and people can call with their questions. However, I have been on many boards in various positions in my lifetime, and as a respresentative, boardmember or a chairman, it has been my responsibility to get the information out to the members through the newsletters or the groups magazine. A way to educate members of any organization is by getting the information out before it is old news. I reolize new, uninformed members, join all the time, therefore it may be redundate for some members to re-read some information.
> How fortunate you were able to go to the WHF meeting last August. That must have been very exciting to have your questions answered in person. Yes, that information was in the AHR in plenty of time for members out of the area to make plans around the date if they chose to. I would have thought more of the board members would have made it.
> Anyway, I do think it would be more helpful if more of the committee chairs reported items in the board minutes that come out with our AHR magazine.
> Thanks for letting me give my opinion and thoughts. I remember Johannas asking at a dinner party I attended, why more Americans didn't have their haflinger inspected. And I guess I think of board members, committee chairs as being liasons for the membership. And to me that means getting the information out there before decisions are made so the membership can respond.
> It's easier for me to just lurk sometimes as I don't want to get jumped on for my opinion. Please know I'm not jumping on any one either, just giving my opinion. :o)

You should be able to call him at any time and ask what is going on in the World Federation and get answers. I didn't tell anyone because as I said before, if you follow the inspection system, use it in your program, you know and it has been talked about. The World Haflinger Federation members were actually here, in the US this past August in New York. These people flew in from all over the world, and yet I think perhaps only 2 or 3 of the AHR board members thought it 'worthy' of their time to even come and talk with them. Our farm participated in the show, and were warmly greeted by all of the people in the federation, and there was even a wine and cheese night to get to come and meet them and talk for all exhibitors or Haflinger owners/lovers. I do understand how it is far for some to come, it was only a 9 hour drive for us with 8 horses, but these people flew across the ocean to see the horses, and meet the people, 9 hours by Semi was the least we could do.

All were welcome to attend and they were here for several days, and it was a great time to ask about inspections, voice concerns and comments to not only the President and Vice Presidents, but other world committee members.

Did any of our regional people tell us this was in the works? I have no idea of the rational behind such a change other than the Austrians have been breeding for height for 5 years and now want to create a market for those. This has wrecked almost all the dog breeds I have been involved with. Just for an example, compare the size of a racing greyhound with the size of show greyhounds...obviously the function of racing has kept these dogs much smaller than the virtual short haired wolfhounds that are shown as greyhounds now. , the bone of European Dalmations vs the spotted Hackneys, the substance of working Dobermans vs the Hackney show Dobermans.... There is a point to substance when it comes to a function. To just say that Americans do whatever we want and are not concerned with the good of the breed

I think the highhandedness is more on the part of the Austrians and if we see that is damaging to the functions we want from the Haflingers we have lived with and used then, maybe it is time to break from the World Association.
