[haflingerfriends] Re: Haflinger slaughter in Europe

If humans would have started riding cows before horses there would not be such a big deal over horse meat.

Now don't get me wrong I have never eaten horse but on the other hand how can I condone it when I love steak. In India where cows are sacred they think we are bad for eating cow.

Slaughter is an unfortunate necessity for the majority of human diets. Since I and many other humans have no desire to become vegetarians, we should be working on ways to minimize the trauma to the animal that has had the unfortunate fate of becoming someone's dinner (whether it be cow, horse, chicken, pig, fish, rabbit, or so on).

In which European countries do they eat soo much horse meat that it has become a whole secondary industry? Or are the meat used instead to feed zoo animals/ dogs and mink? In which case the meat price would be very low and I would think a "culled" Haflinger would bring in a higher price as a pleasure horse.
