If they have the inspection in Sept. in Ramona yes I will, if they don't then no I won't. I am not going to drive all over the place to have him inspected as a three year old. I'll just wait till he is filled out more and done growing, unless we have an inspection in cali.

There are not many haflingers in my area and I know I am in tough compitition with the QH people here, but I don't care. I want to introduce the haflinger more here on the west coast. I love my golden horses and intend to show people what they are about. They are more econmical than a QH or other breeds, via less feed, vet bills, AND NO SHOES! Unless driving a lot on concrete which I did at one point. lol. and they have that temperment that almost any family type horse people want.

Bought him sight unseen (just lots of pictures and videos) and I do not regret it at all. He is amazing. I am just so excited to get him into the Extreme Cowboy Races.

And the market gets flooded with back yard breeders who do not take in the whole picture, (confirmation, temperment, and demand) to name a few. Jennifer you are promoting the breed and are really out there showing people what they can do, so I am sure that you will do great! But here in quarter horse country, (Iowa) I see it all the time, quarter horse foals taken to the sale barn and sold for 15.00 to 50.00 dollars. Just because you can make foals doesn't always mean you should. I would not have bred the two mares I own, I purchased them this fall and they were already bred. And unless they have exceptional foals and to tell you the truth, I am not qualified to tell if they are, I would not breed them again. And if they did have great colts, I do not personally need more, so would only breed with a foal contract. >

One is completely finished, and the other is keeping a couple Haflingers but has purchased friesans. Even our farm, having 9 broodmares, and 6 foals last year, are now down to two foals coming and just two broodmares, we have sold or given away the others. Considering that only around 600 Haflinger foals were registered last year, as compared to at some points 2000 a year, it is to me, getting a bit scary. There aren't to many Haflinger breeders left only a handful that I know of who are still breeding. What is this breed to do? Do you think with the resulting 'shortage' of Haflingers that will be coming in the next 2-3 years, the prices will go back up? Or, are you afraid (as I am) that the breeders are getting out, but the backyard breeders will continue and the quality of the breed will suffer?
> > > > I pose this as a discussion only, I am not surprised with these breeders getting out, as we have drastically cut back from our highest number of Haflingers at 38, down to 10 Haflingers total. I am just a bit worried as to if the breeders are leaving, where it will leave our beloved Haflinger, and in who's hands?
