I very much agree with you. Just to clarify, it wasn't you posting which formed my opnion of the Haflinger market, I have been following what's for sale for a while in my area (and beyond). I want to add that even though a 3 year old horse shouldn't be started under saddle there sure is a lot of ground training and basic manners which the horse should have learned.
This thread did suggest that breeders were going out of business due to the weak market and frankly a horse at 2-4 years sold at a price lower that $5000, must bring a loss for the breeder, unless many corners have been cut.
Hopefully there are people prepared to seek out quality and pay for it. I know I will. And maybe the $700 gelding is a gem who's owners has just come under bad times.
