[haflingerfriends] Dressage

For anyone interested in learning about Dressage in a really friendly environment come visit some of Northern Ohio Dressage Association Schooling shows. I can guarantee the show management is friendly (I am the manager - and the committee that works with me is hand picked and friendly!) and we provide a 7 show series that educates people in dressage and prepares those that want to go to Recognized a firm footing to do so. We have more haflingers starting to show and I smile every time someone in the organization gets a shocked look on their face when they learn I traded in my 16.2, 4th level, ranked 7th in the nation TB for a haflinger. Followed by their worlds of "Eew...a haflinger!". If I can find rides to the shows - I intend to show them just what a haflinger can do - even if scores are low because he is adjusting to the dressage world - his stride will still be large and lovely and make their jaws dropped. And the even better thing is - his absolute adoration of his owner. Of course all my horses had that but I would rather have a horse - regardless of breed - that will give me their heart than one that just doesn't care because they feel like they are simply a means to a rider getting their award.

Also note that when you go to competitions, you are not always seeing Classical Dressage because in nature of competitions people are skipping steps in the classical Dressage progression in order to progress up the levels quickly but at least you will see many good classical rides!
