Here is something the group NEEDS - I have a free computer program, by

called CONVERT, version 4.10, which can do all the calculations you are trying to do discussing different heights and weight etc.. and many many more! Josh Madison very generously made this available to everyone.
In Europe we don't think in hands, inches and pounds - AT ALL. Except the UK of course.
So now when you talk about acres, we can all go into Area in Convert and see how big your farms are, because we think in hektar/hectare and tunnland, which is half a hectare, and tunnland is not found in the program.
This way I have learned that my little farm, which is of approx. 7 hectares, is approx. 18 acres.
Are there other conversion programs out there? Please let us know!
