[haflingerfriends] chocolate Haffie

The darker color is the result of the "smutty" gene which is what creates dapples in lighter horses. It can be a very dramatic color if the mane and tail are the required white. One of the big breeders had a stud like that for quite awhile and I loved his look. He did very well in shows cause his contrast was striking. The other gene that makes a difference is the "mealey" gene and that puts the light coloration on the Haffies and personally one I do not favor...the light legs and belly and light around the muzzle. All the rest fall in the chestnut shades. I like the darker colors myself and all three of mine are the darker red. The contrast makes them very pretty and attracts lots of attention so they are the good ambassadors for the breed(they were the ones in the Rose Parade pulling the green surrey). Personally I would go for the chocolate if it has a white mane and tail...the darker tail and mane is not encouraged in a breed show. So it depends on what you see as her use. Victoria
