[haflingerfriends] Re: Messy tail what to do???

Here is another suggestion that may be worth checking out. My haffie had a similar issue shortly after I bought her 2 1/2 years ago. What a mess! I asked the vet about it when she came for the first time for a well visit. She checked the hay, asked a few questions and swished some poo around in a bucket of water. It turned out that Queenie had sand colic--she was eating dirt with her hay. It took only a couple of rounds on a psylium husk supplement (I used Sand Relief) and her stool was nearly normal. She had to stay on it according to the vet's directions (1 week on/3 weeks off)for quite a while before everything was completely normal. It was a great relief to have a clean horse!
