It sounds as though you have a marvelous start with Jannus! And it certainly seems as though you know what you're doing with him....even if it is dogs that you were mainly used to. They are so intelligent, that I find it more like working with a dog than with the average horse.

Thanks Norma,

Yes, Jannus is unique, well he is to me anyway. I have a sharer called
Nikki, we are both in the same boat (first horse), though as kids we were
around horses a lot. Trouble is I have probably forgotten much of what I
used to know. I am sure I will pick it back up again, now I have some
practical experience on my hands.

Jannus is kept at a DIY yard about 4.5 miles away, and there are a lot of
people I can ask advice from. I have no doubt some will be conflicting, I
will just try to take the bits that suit Jannus and myself. Our saving
grace is that both Nikki and I have been involved with dog training for
years, so we are used to training methods, and are very open minded about
what we should be trying to achieve and the time scale to achieve it.

Jannus was very pushy about food, and insisted he got his nose to the hay
net as soon as he was in the stable, but now I ask him to 'wait' and he's
not allowed to go to his hay net until I have taken off his head collar, and
said 'OK'. Same with his feed bucket. As I said before, he is very
biddable, just needs reminding that he does have manners, and now he needs
to use them again. I think the two years in Wales has proven to be one
hell of a holiday, but now it's back to work, and we all know how that
feels.
