Re: [haflingerfriends] Toby in harness

Jessie
It looks to fit really well. And it does look like he knows what he is doing..I really miss looking at a haffie bum while walking down the road behind.I got to learn some this summer and it is a joy.But my problem is forgetting gee and haa,so i would write a g or an h on her butt on the corresponding side so i wouldn't forget. And since she was trained that way i figured i would just stick w/ it.
Thanks for sharing,it was great!

I've gotten bit by the driving bug.  It really started a little over a year ago in Gettysburg.  Then my vet has just added to it with his two driving haflingers.  In addition, the guy I got my donkey from also drives his donkeys & mules.

I've been ground driving my Donkey, JJ, & also Willie during their training this summer & fall (long lines through stirrups method).  I finally ordered a harness last week that was intended for my donkey.  He is the only animal here that can't double as a riding mount.  Unfortunately the harness saddle ended up being a bit too big for him.

I haven't tried it on Willie, but I did try it on Toby!  I have never actually ground driven Toby all the years I had him, but he seemed to take to it extremely well.  A few photos are in the photo album under the file called "Jessie & Toby".  (not sure if the following link will work.)

I don't have the traces or anything hooked up, mostly set up just to see how everything would fit size-wise.  I know there still needs to be a couple adjustments, but overall I think it will work great.  I was going to put Willie in it today - but it was rainy all day.

I'll probably be looking at carts this coming spring.
