Davis on Large Animal Rescues. This had to do with things like
extracting horses who had fallen down a cliff, or who were inside an
overturned trailer, etc.
One of the things I remembered from that class was to check the
distance from the front axle of your truck to the rear axle, and then
from the rear truck axle to the trailer axle. You do not want to have
a shorter distance between the two truck axles than you do from the
truck's rear axle to the trailer's. Having said that I know that some
of those huge 40 ft trailers are going to have a distance longer than
the distance between the towing vehicle's front and rear axles. What
the presenters were stressing was to not have a jeep pulling a 20 ft
trailer type of thing.
So if your trailer is hitched to your towing vehicle, take a look at
the distances mentioned above and see how your rig or the rig you plan
on getting compares.
Apparently when you have a short distance axle towing vehicle hauling
a long trailer, the trailer is "under powered" by the towing vehicle
and can easily fishtail and flip or cause an accident with the whole
rig.
