Re: [haflingerfriends] Bedding

You need to be careful of wood stove pellets as (as far as I know) they can be a mix of whatever sawdust is available. Given that black walnut sawdust/shavings/chips are toxic to horses (can cause bad founder), I'm not sure I'd want to take the risk.

I use wood stove pellets instead of animal bedding pellets where I need
moisture control. The stove pellets are slightly larger than the animal
pellets, but they also cost less - at least in my area. And if you are
turning them into sawdust, it doesn't matter what the pellet size is. My
horses are "potty trained" so I usually don't have wet stalls.
