How about joining the 2010 Haflinger Gathering in Gettysburg, PA in June?
The dates are Wednesday, June 23rd through Monday, June 28th, although many
come earlier and stay later. Not only are you surrounded by history, you
will also be surrounded by Haflingers of all shapes and sizes with lots of
trail riding and a wagon train ride or two through the Gettysburg National
Battlefield. There are also quite a number of beautiful parks and
recreation areas near the town which will suit your husband's needs and I'm
sure a non-horsey husband or two who would love to do some serious fishing
with him. The Gathering leader in 2010, Kari LaBell, will be working on
reduced rates at a local hotel or you can rent a sleeping cabin at the
Artillery Ridge Campground where the Haflinger Gathering will take place.
We gathered at Artillery Ridge in 2008 for the 3rd annual Haflinger
Gathering on the East Coast. There were over 70 adults and children and 40
horses, 30 of which were Haflingers. We had a blast. Gettysburg is an
amazing place. If you are interested, contact me privately and I'll send
you the write up from the Gathering and give you more information.
If you plan to travel with a horse, Artillery Ridge Campground has stalls
and paddocks for rent. If you cannot travel with your horse, there is
always a Haflinger available to beg, borrow or steal or you can rent a horse
from the campground.
