[haflingerfriends] Re: Steve, Marcia, and Pancho

Joan,
The poem is a real good try! But Pancho is pronounced with an O (Poncho), so it doesn't really rhyme with "ranch-o" :^) Cisco & Pancho were two old western movie hero's. Pancho was short guy and built like a brick.

The cart, my neighbor and I just built. Not sure if I've rattled on about it here or not. But it's made out of all scrap material. An old pickup truck axle, truck lumber rack, old plumbing pipe, steel saftey cage, and a bit of rerod. The two round handles on the front guard are cut from coil springs from a Toyota car, and the seat is from a Dodge minivan. The long "dog whip" is an old fishing rod with some cord added to the end of it.

This forecart is what I'm going to use to pull a camper trailer. The ball hitch is dead center to the wheel axis so the trailer can't over or under run the cart.

To pull the cart and cammper I plan on using three Haflingers in a modified unicorn style on a special tongue with shafts on the front end. The unicorn hitch will be narrower than 3 abreast, and the center horse won't overheat in the summer time. It will use a narrow three horse evener with a cable to the front horse's single tree. When the camper is hooked up it will be solid up and down to the forecart. The tongue, then, won't be solid to the cart, as it is when the cart is used alone.

The camper is my next project. I was going to use a pickup camper but I may end up making the whole camper. I'm also making a small hay wagon to hook up to the forecart. Thats almost done.

The shafts come off and can be replaced with a tongue. The shafts have a high single tree for use with a breast collar, and there is also a low single tree in the line of draft with the axle for use with a draft collar. The tongue will have it's own double tree.

I'm kind of a scrounger. The saddle chime on the harness is a twisted wire Christmas tree top ornament (star) with a jingle bell in the center a couple bells added to each side of it.
