[haflingerfriends] Re: Just as a change from saddle Hunting....How about carts?

This looks a lot like my cart which is an English cart, a bennington. I got mine for what I am told is a steal as well, around $2500. I don't know who made this but I would say that a two wheel cart with no brake is a little dodgey for beginner (it was for me) but they are smart looking and you can get used to it. Just start on the flat! :) Always safer to start with a carriage that has a brake unless you are with a trainer who can help you understand the braking of the britching (sp?) And four wheels have an obvious advantage. As far as it being "big" it is much safer to be high behind the horse so that you can see. Many people will set up a light cart that is low behind the horse which is not as safe as you cannot see over the horse. You wouldn't drive a car where you couldn't see over the hood but people will do it with horses for some reason. i wouldn't recommend that.
As to fit, halflingers run wide so make sure he'll fit between the shaves! You can usually make adjustments on length. Width, a little tougher!

I am sure there are many drivers in this group who will have more advice and experience but this looked so like my cart I had to weigh in.

Good luck!
Cherie
