[haflingerfriends] Looked danger in the *legs* & couldn't even run!

Monday night about 11-11:30pm I heard what sounded like hooves back here by my computer room. Looked out the window and saw nothing - then the furnace (outside) came on, so I thought that's what I heard, cycling preparing to come on.

Went out to feed last hay at midnight and was opening the lock on the shed when I heard walking reeeeally close in front of me in the shadows. Then 2 legs appeared then stopped, and my heart almost stopped beating. I saw 2 legs coming up from the ground disappearing into the shadows at about waist height. I thought it was a man standing there and I was too stunned to do anything but think, "I've always felt so safe here. I never expect to see a person out here at midnight (or any other time). I'm in real trouble." Still in that nanosecond my mind was stuck processing info instead of running. "White jeans? Why would anyone be wearing white jeans after Labor Day???" (ONLY ME!) It took one step closer into full light - and it turned out to be Buddy, my neighbor's TWH! LOL! His *jeans* are high whites that go almost up to his body!

OMGosh, he scared the poo out of me! I'd been carrying the mares' new halters and leads to the tack/feed shed, so they were right at my feet. He has to be 16.2-3 now and doesn't know how to put his head down to be haltered

My girls were in the corral so I thought it would be best to put buddy in a stall overnight. He came with me but was obviously scared, snorting the entire time. He was too upset so I knew he couldn't stay there. Our stalls are pipe corral and wouldn't hold a big scared horse. He pooped 3x in the 3 minutes he was in the stall.

I switched all the gates and took him out and around through the back yard again and let him into the pasture behind the corral. I prayed they don't do any real damage, and hoped Rose wouldn't hurt Cookie. She won't let Cookie anywhere near her boyfriend.

I am so blessed that he knows me, because as scared as he was, I was prepared for him to break in half or walk over me at any time but he didn't. I had no idea he trusted me that much. He's a lone horse and craves human attention.+

I called the neighbors this morning and was told they bought a pally Christmas pony for their grandkids and he is being delivered today, so Buddy will have a buddy before the day is out.

That's the story of my near heart attack and why it's so funny now!
