[haflingerfriends] Re: In all the discussion...

I have to agree that the haflinger can do it all, and am not wanting to sound like I a slamming the more modern type, but I do worry about over breeding to gain a certain type only. I have the drafty type mares, both have the old style smaller head, Missy's is amazing am hoping she passes it on to her foal. I am hoping for something great (of course) and if she throws a nice foal am considering showing even though I would have to travel. Those of us who love the drafty type aren't wanting to see it disappear. I would like to suggest writing to the board that a division be made for the drafty types so that they are judged and classified together rather than given a lower rating because they don't meet the modern standard. Not a sub division because they are purebred, just a different class or instruct the judges that points need to be rewarded for confirmation of a draft type. This might encourage a small group of breeders to keep a few drafty studs for those of us who prefer them. Over breeding for any specific trait can cause problems in the long run, and keeping more bloodlines and their traits can only protect the breed for the future.

Sorry so long winded, just want to speak up and encourage others who love the drafty type to speak up too. Just to make it easy the address is: 1686 East Waterloo Road, Akron, OH 44306-4103. Would like to see in the next meeting minutes saying they received alot of requests, that is how change is made;-)

Emily if they do get a lot of requests does it go to member vote? Or does the board vote only? Have to get this ball rolling classification for my foals is just 3 years away. lol.
