[haflingerfriends] Foals

Hi Gang, It's is not a good idea to let the mare in a corral with any other horses when she is foaling. How would you like to give birth and be nervous that something might happen to it as soon as it's born. She could get up and start kicking at the geldings and the baby would be hurt or killed. Have someone look at the mare to see what they say about how far along she is. I would put her in at night, a little more work for you but I would flip if I missed the birth and the baby was dead. I have had many foals and I was there for everyone. After the mare foals, I put them out alone for a while and all the other horses run over to check out the new kid. The geldings get used to the foal before the are together, fall in love with it and start to be very protective. But you have to do it gradually, or the mother will get scared and start kicking and who knows what could happen. I even had my babies in with my stallion and mares.
