[haflingerfriends] Camryn doing well

Camryn has been with us just a few days over a week.  Things are going well.  I'm certain she's felt it's a differant planet she unloaded from the trailer to.  She'd been foaled by the people I got her from so being 8 yrs old, the move was I'm sure difficult for her.  Plus as she'd been with a sister all that time, and now is an only horse that's been hard as well.  She'd been in a tie down stall the past 3 yrs, so even though I'm sure her 12x12 box stall is much more comfy, she's unused to that as well.  I've noticed she's got bedding on her in the mornings, so she's found the comfort of laying down at night.  Plus she can come and go as she pleases from the barn all day, rather than being tied in her stall during what we people see as bad weather and she doesn't.  She'd been unused to her halter going on and being taken off, as she wore it basically 24/7.  I'd been patiently holding it for her each morning to put on, giving her the
opportunity to assist in putting it on.  At first this took nearly 1/2 hr. slowly she caught on that while she had a choice to make, if she wanted out of the stall, her assisting was the best choice.  This morning, for the first time, I held up the halter and she lowered her nose right in with one try.  Last night, she walked into her stall, turned to have me remove her halter, without me using a lead rope to bring her in and aid her to stand while I took it off.  She's now heading right to her hay in the morning, and eating it up, rather than needing to head for the fence to see the neighbor horses while going back and forth to the piles.  Even when her neighbors are kept in for the day, she appears to be relaxed and just naps or eats.  Took three days to get thru the dreadlocks her tail had been, and it's now neatly braided and clean.  I think she enjoys me just coming down, cleaning her bedroom and just hanging with her on and off
thruout the day.  One of the joys of being unemployed LOL
Today I plan to introduce the clicker and start with clicker training.  The weather this time of year doesn't lend itself to a lot of groundwork.  Clicking will hopefully keep us both amused in the cold, get her thinking, and bond us till riding time hits.
