[haflingerfriends] Re: Ringbone

She's had multiple owners, so I can't give a detailed history, but yes she was driven and yes at least some on the roads. I am not certain at what age she was started or how hard she was trained. Her confirmation is not ideal and that may be a contributing factor also. I had wanted her to be my "forever" horse, so I am devastated and have tried everything recommended. Right now she is sound for light work, so I am still riding her, but I hoped to be able to do a lot more.

What kind of work did your haflinger do before you bought her? Had she been driven on the paved roads? How young was she worked and how hard? I don't think it's the breed, I would think other conditions set a horse up for ringbone. Just my opinion.

The vet has not given her a very good prognosis for more than light work. She is only slighlty off, but I want to use her for dressage. So before I throw in the towel any other suggestions? Also this is my first Haflinger and I love her, but vet said Hafligners are prone to ringbone. Is this true? If I need to replace her I was thinking I would consider another Haflinger, but this is a concern.
