[haflingerfriends] Re: Chiropractic

hi marilyn,

a couple of years ago our equine vet went back to school to learn to do chiropractic adjustments. since then several of our horses get regular adjustments and others have needed a treatment or two. our two oldest residents are dusty donkey, age 27 and haflinger gelding sage, age 33. these two have really benefited from their regular adjustments. the vet is able to feel where the spine is out of alignment and adjust accordingly. it is easy to see the difference after. she does not just do the neck, the spine and all legs are adjusted and sometimes the chest as well. our 3 year old donkey took a terrible spill recently and she focused on his chest and ribs. 2 treatments made a world of difference. dusty donkey has arthritis and it used to be so hard to watch him try to get up, his hips would lock up. now he gets up easily. sage also has arthritis and would stand with his rear legs together like a tripod. he now stands more normally and there is a big difference in his mobility. he can actually lift his right rear leg on his own which he could not do before. also, because he can stand on his rear legs so much better, his front feet (previously foundered and neglected for years) have improved to the point that they are now normal, something our farrier did not think we could accomplish. everyone who knows these 2 animals has seen the improvements. they love getting their treatments. we are also doing chiropractic on rusty, our half haflinger who has had ulcers and is very prone to colic. there have been studies that connect ulcers in specific parts of the stomach with misalignment in parts of the spine. so far it has made him calmer and more relaxed.

i could go on and on about what i have seen with these animals. i suggest that anyone who is interested spends time talking with the chiropractor. maybe even go watch them work. i can tell you it is some of the best money i have ever spent on my herd.
