[haflingerfriends] Re: Saddle Fit

Neat Blog Liana. :^) I have a Sensation Dressage saddle, and I too prefer it to the Barefoot I rode in for a week in VA while on vacation. The Barefoot saddle really was wide for me, and my hips genuinely hurt from sitting so widely. The Sensation has a built up seat, with a narrow twist to it, so it allows your legs to hand down instead of spreading (feels like halfway doing the splits on the barefoot).
I like my treeless a lot, but have found that it is not a great fit on my higher withered draft cross. It works nicely on my two Haflingers though, and it is seriously cushy... very nice to ride in all day long if you wanted.
I think a treeless saddle is a good option for someone who is dealing with a horse whose body shape changes as it matures or becomes more conditioned. The only thing is, it is not recommended for heavier riders (over 200#). I'm not sure why, and it bugs me. (I don't like things or people that discriminate against heavier riders)
