Re: [haflingerfriends] soiled tail/encrusted manure

It may sound wierd, but my vet recommended Exalibur---yes, sheath cleaner! It can cut through the crusty stuff and won't harm them if you don't get it all off (which would be easy to do in this weather). I jsut throw it in a bucket of hot water while I'm grooming and it warms it right us so it's easy (and more comfortable!) to use! Let it soak and gently rub it in. Wipe it off when your'e done. I just use old towels for both. The bottle says to use rubber gloves.........it's kinda gross, but I think it's easier to have bare hands, you can always wash them :-)

Good luck!

Subject: [haflingerfriends] soiled tail/encrusted manure

My new mare Camryn came with not just a heavily soiled tail which I can deal with. Being as she's still getting used to me, (just came here Wed.) as much as I want to get it off, I hesitate to make our first few days painful. I'm afraid it has/will cause skin probs if I don't get it cleaned. Being it's winter I don't want to hose it.
Any ideas/thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanx all,Susan
