Hey Marilyn,
I have in the past given my horses electrolyte paste which helps to encourage water intake and also when I got camping or am in an unfamilar place, I take a chunk of my horses chestnuts and put that in the water. I thought it was a wives tale but it seems to encourage drinking also. Don't know how that works but it has on 3 out of 5 times I've done it.
