Re: [haflingerfriends] Re: Question on spotted haffie to the group

My two-cents worth on the "spotted" haffies: I read the man's story on his web site and it appears he is not dedicated to the haffie breed, but is an entrepreneur. He saw a potential market in producing "spotted" haffies and is attempting to exploit it by following the history of the Paint registry.

My feelings on that?: BOO! "Colored" horses are the new ordinary. There's tons of them out there.

Marilyn :)

P.S. Did the "spotted" haffie in the photo look like a haffie in confirmation? I say No; but then I don't know it's age, nor could we see it's full figure.

Also, any Haflinger with regular Haflinger Registration papers is not a "Spotted Haflinger". The Spotted Haffies are cross bred between Haflingers and Paint and pinto horses or ponies, so they're not full blooded.

Interestingly, I met a driving pair of Fjord/Haflinger cross geldings at a Chuckwagon event here in Arkansas (full brothers). They were kind of neat looking, though why someone would cross the two breeds is beyond me, lol. Many of the breeding practices in rural Arkansas are "interesting" to say the least... ;-)
