Re: [haflingerfriends] Re: Into the fold ....breeding out the Drafty

HELLO EVERYONE, I DON'T MEAN TO KEEP DRAGGING THIS ON BUT YOU HAVE MY CURIOSITY WITH ALL THE TALK OF DRAFTS, SIZES AND BREEDS
I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS
OUR CORREY  "CORREY OF THE VALLEY AD EL" IS SHE OF THE DRAFT BREED OR THE MODERN?  I HAVE PHOTOS OF HER IN THE PHOTO ALBUM
WHAT DOES THE AD EL STAND FOR?
AND WHERE DO YOU MEASURE FOR HEIGHT? IS IT BEHIND THE LEG OR DOWN THE LINE OF THE FRONT?
THANKS, SHARON IN CARLSBAD,CA.

I value Jacque's input enormously because of her experience with the breed; however, I'm afraid I have to agree that came across as insensitive. Harsh. (Jacque, you did sound a little cranky.)

Having said that, I'm sure her feelings and words were, at least, partially driven by her love of this breed. Her passion for it. Since we non-breeders are the bread and butter of horse world, I'm certain she would regret some of her word choices.

Please, please, please...can we drop this thread and move forward? It's becoming destructive. In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"

Sincerely,

Marilyn

P.S. Jacque, I have to thank you for all the hard work you put into this breed. My Toby is a grandson of your A Rock. I can see your beautiful stud in Toby's square profile. His head is different, but those long legs and shorter back are distinctive. .

WoW talk about rude! sorry jacque...but did you miss the part that listed the stallions, which are also approved and licensed that Jennifer (and myself, and others)...did like, again which is a PERSONAL PREFERENCE. According to many in this thread, there is that wide difference which is totally acceptable, which even you seem to acknowledge, I quote
" when I look at the stallions she does like, it is quite obvious there are different ideas, which is what makes the Haflinger so unique. "

you seem to think because some of us don't care for your horses or the A line type`, we don't believe in the standards. Well shame on you then..... your comments directed at others on this list were personally offensive. Obviously from your statements you don't feel we are entitled to our own opinions since we are "not breeders" It's exactly that type of narrow thinking that started this debate in the first place.

You said "."if you don't like the standards, find another breed with standards you like! the Haflinger is around because of standards set by the World Federation and breeders, long before many of you even knew what a Haflinger was, and now, many of you who are NOT breeders, and don't even care to have a registered Haflinger, OR be a member of the National Registry are going to sit at your computers, drink your coffee and give your 2 cents on what should or should not be considered a Haflinger based on bone and type because a standard has changed in the past how many years??? Humph."

Now that is rude! All Jennifer did was post some pictures to visually demonstrate the differences we have been discussing, and she was right on.
She, and we, are entitled to our opinions. We did not make snide remarks about you or your choices, yet you chose to make this a personal attack.. So, in your own words, Shame on you .

You know, when I first joined this group a comment was made that in the past, the group had split over "differences" . Looks to me like that is where this is headed. You obviously don't value our opinions, or our right to have them.
Suzy

Hi Lori,
I personally would like to thank you for your comment below. I did, at first, personally find it rude the comment made, as my stallion, A Rock, is the first stallion listed as 'not liked' by Jennifer. And why Jennifer may feel she was not being rude because it was her opinion, if I had put a picture of her dear, beloved, horse and made the same comment, I am sure I would have been labeled poorly.

I then, however, looked at the other stallions Jennifer did not personally like, and it actually made me smile and I felt quite honored that my stallion was then on the list because the ones listed are some of the most influential, prominent, and decorated stallions in the US. She in fact named TWO gold rated stallions (A Rock being one of those) and Aristocrat being the other, both of which were named so by World Haflinger Federation inspectors. And when I look at the stallions she does like, it is quite obvious there are different ideas, which is what makes the Haflinger so unique.
Our breeding program is structured around our beliefs in the World Haflinger Federation Standards, and for those who don't believe in those standards, don't like them, or won't put your horse up against those standards for whatever excuse, shame on you.

Everyone gives an opinion, here's mine, if you don't like the standards, find another breed with standards you like! the Haflinger is around because of standards set by the World Federation and breeders, long before many of you even knew what a Haflinger was, and now, many of you who are NOT breeders, and don't even care to have a registered Haflinger, OR be a member of the National Registry are going to sit at your computers, drink your coffee and give your 2 cents on what should or should not be considered a Haflinger based on bone and type because a standard has changed in the past how many years??? Humph.

> Jennifer, did you ever think that this statement is rude to the members of this list whose pictures of stallions you listed? I think if you truly love the haflinger breed then we love all of them. We may not keep the other type in our barn but they are all haflingers. Please think about your words and people's feelings. And no I do not own a stallion but my daughter owns a gelding out of Aristocrat. Have you ever seen Aristocrat in person? He has a presence also. Lori in WI
