when the horses spend more time in the stalls than outside. I also had a
distructive gelding and this is how I solved the "bucket" problem.
I installed a "Bucket Buddy" to hold the bucket. They can be purchased on
line for less than $3.00. There is no place to "catch" a horse on a Bucket
Buddy. Then I hung the bucket and installed two eye-bolts, one on each side
- close to the bucket - and about 1/3 of the way from the rim. Next I found
the perfect size bungee cord and attached it to the eye-bolts - crimping
down the ends so they were not exposed. Between the bucket buddy and the
bungee cord, the bucket is secure in place. The bungee cord needs to be
quite tight around the bucket - and stays in place. It's a little more
trouble having to put the bucket in the bungee every time you fill it. But
I found that gravity helps a lot. I take a partially full bucket, and slip
the bottom in the bungee and let gravity stretch the bungee as the bucket
drops in place. Then I secure the handle in the Bucket Buddy and top off
the bucket. If you start with a full bucket, you get wet more times than
not.
That's what worked for me and my gelding.
