There are many causes for laminitis. First find out if she actually foundered or just had lami. Founder is where the coffin bone seperates from the wall and/or the cb sinks. Lami is swelling of the laminitis also causing heat, pulses, and pain. Many people interchange these terms. IF the owners feel it was from spring grass she'll have to muzzled or pulled off the pasture and tighter maintainence of exercise/diet to keep her from another bout of lami. It would be very simple to have bloodwork done on her - Insulin and Glucose from the same draw - to see if she is Insulin Resistant and how severely. IR is managed by Diet/Exercise.
The Haflinger I chose had lots of symptoms of IR and old laminitis. I bought her anyway! Its a lifestyle change for the horses and more work for the owner but to me its worth it. You would limit grazing, feed low sugar/starch hay, no grain, balanced minerals to your hay assay, drylot during peak sugar time in grass and exercise!
I'm just used to doing this now so it seems normal to me! IF this mare has everything else you want then you'd be doing her a huge favor by 'rescueing' her!
