there are plenty of drafty Haflingers registered in AHR, and will continue
to be as they fulfill a need for many members. So a separate group is not
needed for them, as they do still fit within the breed standard which is
very broad. What is not as draft-friendly is the Inspection/Classification
process which is purely voluntary in North America, so is not a determining
factor in whether a purebred draft style Haflinger is registerable or
breedable.
As for an interest group--that is what the regional association groups are
meant to be for owners, but some (mostly in the west) are dwindling because
it is so costly to get together. After ten years of organizing a big
gathering in Lynden, Washington, I gave up because there would be no way to
attract enough horses and owners to pay the cost of the rental of the
facility. If there was a resurgence in interest in activities from owners,
you bet I'd do it again.
So start something on your own since the Rocky Mountain group seems to be
dying--try to rejuvenate it!
